Game of Thrones : Winter is Coming Exclusive Video Preview
April 11, 2011
I am so excited for this new HBO series to come out! George R. R. Martin's best-selling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series of novels is one of my all time favorites. Seeing this preview it looks like HBO did an amazing job. The dipiction of the Others had me jumping out of my skin. Definitly a must see!
"In the Game of Thrones Television show, the term 'White Walkers' is used as an alternate name for a species normally called the Others. They are held to be myths only. According to legend, the Others were creatures of ice and cold who, more then eight thousand years ago, came from the uttermost north during a winter that lasted a generation and a night that covered the world, the Long Night. The Others were defeated in the War for the Dawn by a great hero wielding a sword of flame. After the Others' defeat, Bran the Builder constructed the Wall with magic and artifice to ensure they could never return to threaten the people of Westeros and the world beyond. The War for the Dawn apparently unified the peoples of the North under the rule of the Starks and saw Winterfell built shortly thereafter.
The Night's Watch was founded to guard against the return of the Others, but this task is generally forgotten today. The Watch is instead believed to be guarding against the human wildlings who hold the lands beyond and occasionally try to raid across the Wall into the richer lands to the south."
Chupacabra in Hood County Texas Is it the chupacabra or a hairless canine?
July 20, 2010
"Encounters with two hairless canines last week in northeast Hood County are stirring speculation that goat-sucking "chupacabras" have expanded into North Texas.
Or, according to a more scientific explanation, mange is infecting coyotes, robbing them of their coats.
There haven't been any local reports of livestock or pets being sucked dry - the modus operandi of the mythical beasts of south-of-the-border folklore.
But a frail, hairless hound cornered on Wednesday, July 7, was no less startling to a code enforcement officer for the city of Cresson.
Johnny Collins said he was checking a city water well when he saw an emaciated, gray-skinned animal sneak into a barn at the adjacent Wake Sports Ranch, which operates a cable system that slings water skiers around a lake.
Frank Hackett, Hood County animal control officer, entered the building with Collins to flush the creature out, but that's when it showed its teeth.
"It came toward me," Collins said. "It growled and leaped, kind of like a kangaroo rat, and when it came down, it went back toward Frank."
So Hackett shot the animal, Collins said.
Jack Farr, owner of the ranch and neighboring MotorSport Ranch, said he had been seeing the animal for about three weeks on the property.
"One time I was on a four-wheeler and I came within 15-20 feet of it," he said. "I just kind of veered closer to it, but it trotted away. I've never seen anything like it."
Sightings of similar creatures have popped up in recent years at Edinburg along the border with Mexico and farther north near Cuero."
NBC -- "Merlin" is a new drama series that updates the story of the infamous sorcerer of Arthurian legend for a new audience. The mythical city of Camelot, in a time before history began; a fantastical realm of legendary beasts and mysterious people; a dangerous world in which magic has been banned by the ruthless tyrant, Uther Pendragon.
When Merlin, a young man gifted with extraordinary magical powers, arrives in the kingdom, he quickly makes enemies including the heir to Uther's crown, the headstrong Prince Arthur. But guided by Uther's wise physician Gaius, Merlin is soon using his talents not just to survive but also to unlock Camelot's mystical secrets. As he does so he discovers that his destiny and that of the kingdom's young leader in waiting, Arthur, are inextricably linked.
While I was completely skeptical because of how far off it was from any other Merlin legend, as I watched, I felt the show was coming from a very interesting angle and enjoyed the freshness. I am 7 shows in and absolutely LOVE this show. The creatures that make appearances include an all knowing dragon that is willingly imprisoned under the castle, a very angry gryphon and a heart wrenchingly beautiful unicorn.
Legend of the Seeker Based on the Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind
October 24, 2008
Premier November 1st & 2nd - Don't miss it!!
This amazing new TV mini-series from Spiderman director, Sam Raimi, is based off the "New York Times" - bestselling Sword of Truth series books by Terry Goodkind. If the TV series can even remotely touch the genius of the books, then it is well worth watching!
The Sword of Truth books have by far been my favorite series of all time! I am so excited to see what they can do to bring it alive and yet a little apprehensive since we all know it's hard to beat the feeling of the book. Since they are filming in New Zealand, we can certainly expect the scenery to be breathtaking!
In a mythical land, one man, Richard Cypher, discovers his true destiny as he, a mysterious young woman, a wise old wizard and a magical sword are all that stand between the evil tyrant Darken Rahl and his quest for total domination.
Stars Craig Horner as Richard Cypher, Bridget Regan as Kahlan Amnell and Bruce Spence as Zedd
Conjuring the Dragon Speed painting by Chris Scalf
October 14, 2008
Chris Scalf is an amazing digital artist I happened upon at YouTube. I wanted to share one of his killer time-lapse paintings, and let me tell you, I had a heck of a time just picking one.
The detail of this dragon and his conjurer captured me...
the use of light and shadow...
the electric charge from the wizards hands to the folds of his hooded robe...
the glow of the fiery pit the dragon emerges from...
the hint of veins from the transparency of the dragon wings...
I loved watching every second as it all unfold before me.
Certainly one of the best artists I have stumbled upon in quite awhile.
