Greetings to thee or maybe I should say --Aloha! My name is April and I was raised in Hawaii on the island of Maui. On which I had spent most my 31 years. My family and I recently made a big move to Rochester Minnesota. I'm very happily married to my handsome love and best friend, Cameron. We have been married over 13 years now and he still makes my knees go weak and my heart to skip a beat. (sounds like a bad physical condition, I know. maybe I should get that checked out... *wink*). Together, we have a handsome and sometimes overly intelligent son, Connor Kapahua who is now the wise old age of 3.

My wonderful family has spread out over the years, from Maui to New York and Minnesota to Washington. There is my amazing mother (a.k.a. Mum), my step-dad (a.k.a. Marshall), my father Frank III, a wonderful older brother, Frank IV (a.k.a. Rann to the family) and 1-2-3 gorgeous sisters, Adel "Delly"- Tara "The Terror" (I know... poor thing! She would always get so fussy when I called her that. How could I help myself? *wicked grin*) - and my baby sister Ilana "Shina" (I got to change her dippers so I feel I can call her my baby sister for the rest of her life... *wicked laugh*). A big Auntie Shout-Out to my nieces, Summer, Tiffany, Crystal, Alethiea (whom I love to smother with auntie hugs and kisses), and Jessica who I miss so very much and hope to see again someday soon.

Lady Gryphon's Mythical Realm is dedicated to Mum - who taught me to dream... not once... but twice.

First with books - fairytales being my favorite. I can still remember the excitement of Story Time... listening to mum's voice take on different characters (even the mean scary ones). When I would close my eyes, it always seemed as if I was in the story watching it happen around me. I feel very blessed to be able to hear her now read some of those same fairytales to my own son.

The second and most challenging/trying time came after living for a year in the mainland. It changed me, hardened me and I shut the door on dreams. To make a long story short, I was sent back to Hawaii... a very dark foreboding person. It took several years for me to trust or believe in anyone or anything. But Mum, she never gave up on me. She was (as still is) there no matter how hard I tried to push her away in the past. Never judgmental, condescending, or lying... only extending her unconditional love.

Mum, there are no words... Except.... I Love You!

Ode to Maui Hawaii

While I have moved away and made a new home and life for myself in the mainland, Maui will always be my childhood home. Maui is the place of many firsts for me. She watched me grow and nurtured my imagination. She saw my first crush, watched me fall in love at first sight (meeting Cameron at a party in Poli Poli at the age of 16) and brought the love of my heart to me (the birth of my first son).

Maui is full of mystery and holds a definite presence of many Hawaiian myths and legends. I hope to add more myths I grew up with, but for now I have a page on Pele: Godess of the Volcano and Menehunes.

NOTE: When you are looking through the paintings in the Mythical Realm, you will see most of them are thumbnailed - giving you a choice of a closer look. I have also tried to get Artist information for the paintings, which you will find when you hover your cursor over a picture (if there is none, then I unfortunately don't know who the artist is).

Images & Bandwidth Issues

The images and graphics in Mythical Realm are there for all to enjoy. Collect them, put them on your own website or use them in forums. Please use any copyright information I may have and give credit where credit is do. If I know who an artist is, you will find the information in a window by moving your cursor over the picture. If there isn't any information, then that means I am in search of the name of the amazing artist and I would be ever so grateful to anyone who can contact me via the guestbook or the forum with the artists information.

I would also ask that if you decide to take some graphics from Mythical Realm, that a link to back to the Realm would be greatly appreciated. I also have banners available. ;-)

Bandwidth has begun to become a huge issue for Mythical Realm. For those of you who don't know, the term "bandwidth stealing" refers to the practice of linking directly to images on someone else's server. This practice is inconsiderate, and can be very expensive for the person who's images you are linked to. Your IMG SRC tags should NEVER contain an http reference to another page unless you have express permission to do so. All graphics used on your site should be downloaded to your computer (either by right clicking on them if you have a PC or clicking and holding down the mouse button if you have a MAC) and then transferred to your own server.

Having received several warnings and extra fees tacked onto the bill, my server has suggested I change file names at least once a week. So, beware, you may have a picture now... but not for long.

As for those with WebTV, I apologize I am unable to let you link directly to the graphics here in the Realm. However, there are graphics sites dedicated to Web TV users; Such as Draac's Free Gifs 123. These sites will generally tell you that You Have Their Permission to Link Directly. If it does not say so Explicitly, DON'T DO IT.
